It’s been a bit of whirlwind since we’ve reformed as The Stumbles but of course first thing on the agenda… write new songs! One of the coolest parts of playing again after so many years is that we’re all bringing something new to the table. We’ve all been on separate musical journeys and picked up new musical ideas and inspirations along the way. But it was still a little surprising that after one long day jam, we had basic structures for about six new songs, four of them making it to the new EP we are about to release. A fifth song came out of a sound check jam before a show at the Lion’s Den in Pinetop, AZ.
The songs definitely have a new sound and new energy. We’ve learned quite a bit from our experiences in our alter-ego cover band, Stumbling Moxie, as well. One big takeaway was that even just using acoustic guitars you can still have a very creative, clean, big sound. So that became the approach to the new recordings. Having a phenomenal new drummer in Brent Payne has been a HUGE influence on the songs and sound as well. Additional vocals helpful also!
Needless to say, we are VERY excited about this first effort, currently in the final mixing stages, and the possibilities it brings. Most artists will say that their latest effort is the best music they’ve done, but we feel the new stuff REALLY are the best songs we’ve written. So stay tuned folks, lot’s of new, exciting things are on the horizon!
